Welcome to JonathanMetz.com!
I am Jonathan Metz, and I am a full service graphic designer and
illustrator in Boston, Massachusetts. Previous work has included
web site management, pamphlets and fliers, landscapes and portraits,
advertisements and cartoons. My illustrations have appeared in
local publications as well as a national medical journal for
gynecologic oncology.
This web site serves as a method for me to display my online portfolio
and build upon my existing web knowledge. I am constantly
learning new things and I am using this web site as a vehicle for
expanding my knowledge. I personally believe that in order to be
a useful graphic designer, one must constantly be learning new ways to
improve their skills.

In order to maintain and update my present skill set I have sought
career choices that allow an array of person growth to take
place. In my most current position, I managed baywindows.com and southendnews.com as well as designing the advertising layout for the South End News.
It was my sole responsibility as Webmaster for baywindows.com and
southendnews.com to upload the weekly news for both the Bay Windows and
South End News newspapers to the respective website. In addition
to this, I had to manage copyright free images that corresponded with
the articles and make sure they were web-ready.
These tasks were combined with user management, designing and
implementing our weekly e-newsletter, updating the website with daily
links highlighting news geared toward our gay and lesbian readership,
creating and maintaining web-banners for our e-commerce clients, and
generating reports.
Additionally, I was working toward developing a better web site that
was more cost effective, search engine friendly and still content
rich. My job as the Web Master was coupled as the South End News
Layout Manager, where I designed the advertising lay out of the South
End News neighborhood newspaper.
The publishers at Bay Windows recognized my skills from Community
Newspaper Company where I was part of a great team that paginated ten
newspapers including the Needham Times and the Brookline Tab . I was
quickly brought on board with the team that mapped out the open houses
for their real estate publications, Boston Homes and Cambridge Homes.
Having had core knowledge of the way that GIS software works from my
work with Sullivan Plumbing, and having had experience with Adobe
Illustrator from Savenor’s; I quickly developed an improved method for
the mapping process. What was taking them several hours to
complete I managed to cut down to a few hours.
My experience with the newspaper industry was built from a strong
background in two dimensional design. I have created
advertisements for Savenor's Gourmet Market in Beacon Hill (their steaks are excellent, by the way) for publication in the Improper Bostonian, The Beacon Hill Times , and the Boston Courant . I also developed their public image as I designed Savenor’s in-store signage .
I am also an accomplished fine artist . My work is primarily dry
media, but I have been known to work in wets as well as photography . My talent
has awarded me opportunities to work with the best in the field, as
well as an opportunity to work with physicians and business clients to
work together to create an identifiable image.
Feel free to poke your head around, and I look forward to hearing from you !
